Working as a Certified Prosthetist is both rewarding and challenging. A typical day involves a wide variety of tasks, everything from patient assessments to socket creation/modification to researching and choosing components to attending amputee clinics and collaborating with colleagues. Our work is demanding, creative and fascinating. A broad skill set is needed to be able to help patients that require custom prosthetics effectively, however, it is difficult to be proficient at designing and fitting every type of prosthesis. We just can’t do it all, as much as we’d like to. Many prosthetists have large caseloads and work long hours. It is hard to find that elusive work-life balance. When a patient requires a type of prosthesis that the clinician is unfamiliar with, it can be stressful. Most prosthetists find a way to collaborate with companies that can facilitate the provision of niche prosthetics, knowing that the chosen company has expertise in providing a particular type of prosthesis. This knowledge enables the prosthetist to give their patient the care that they need without having to spend critical time and effort researching and developing a specific kind of prosthesis. We at Lifeart Prosthetics know the challenges that prosthetists face everyday and we want to help. We have been hard at work developing a streamlined process that will give prosthetists a choice in how they treat their patients who are in need of specialty prosthetics. Nobody wants to turn a patient in need away or refer them to someone else if it’s not necessary. We are looking forward to revealing what we have been working on, in the near future. We are excited about the prospect of supporting hard-working prosthetists and helping them to give their patients the care that they deserve.
